Designed in collaboration with Design Spec, this stunning kitchen caught the attention of the Southern Living editors due to its relationship to its site and spacious yet intimate feel. “The appeal of bringing the outdoors inside led one couple to recreate a contemporary farmhouse retreat on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In their kitchen, a high-pitched ceiling, transom windows, and light wood furnishings highlight the best attraction of all—nature,” writes Majella Hamilton. Antique heart pine floors, distinctive cabinetry and an oversized island gives the space warmth and convenience. Generous windows maintain the connection to the natural surroundings. Describing the kitchen, Hamilton writes, “To give the room an open-to-the-sky feeling, architects Lyn McClay, David Arneson, and Georgia Bizios created a simple, serene space closely tied to the outdoors.” To read the complete article: Hamilton, Majella Chube. “This Kitchen Soars” Southern Living (July 2004): 106. |
