Home Design Clinic at Duke Continuing Education

Georgia teaches a course on home design through Duke's Continuing Education Program. Initiated in 1996, the course is team taught with Lyn McClay, AIA. Students find the course very useful regarding home design and construction.

Course Description:

Building a house or renovating one is an exciting and rewarding venture! It is an opportunity to bring our ideas and dreams to life and to enhance our daily lives in a place we help to create. Since a house is a significant financial investment, the decision to embark on such a project can also be a scary one. Would you like to understand the building process better? And learn how to implement some of your ideas about space? This workshop is a must if you want to be actively involved in the home design process. We will help you identify and understand important home design issues through lectures, examples and design exercises, individually and in small groups. We'll cover site and building design issues, costs and budgets, and dealing with contractors. Recommended readings will supplement discussions. We will take a Saturday field trip to recently constructed homes and homes under construction in the Triangle area.
