We designed an addition to this contemporary ranch home in Chapel Hill to meet the needs of a growing family with three children. In order to preserve the strong character and massing of the original house, a two-story pavilion was added at the rear of the existing home, with a play/media room on the ground floor and two bedrooms above.

Details and materials were chosen for their durability and simplicity, including exposed stained concrete floors and veneer plywood ceilings. Large windows and a series of balconies and decks with detachable sun shades will provide opportunities for the family to enjoy the beautiful wooded site.
