For this complete renovation of an existing home built in the 1970s, the challenges included creating an open floor plan, bringing light into the interior, providing views of the site, simplifying circulation through the house, and improving the exterior appearance.

Our proposed design adds some new living space that eliminates a roof drainage problem and improves the massing. The new kitchen is designed to maximize storage while maintaining connections to adjacent spaces on three sides and providing exterior views on the fourth. A new open stair is positioned in the center of the floor plan to clarify the circulation, let space flow, and allow light to reach deeply into the house. The new master bedroom and bath are located on the main floor and are fully accessible.
